A MARKET square will be perked up with bursts of pink as fundraisers continue their quest to beat cancer.

Abingdon charity Against Breast Cancer will congregate in the town on Saturday, where entertainers including belly dancers and opera singers will join special guests for the annual Splash of Pink event.

Market Place will play host to lucky dip games and face painters while children will get the chance to meet television stars Peppa Pig and Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

Bernadette Jones, chief executive of the research charity, said: "This annual event is always popular within the community and we are very lucky that so many local companies and supporters come out to help fundraise for vital research. People can expect to see acts such as Beat Street dancers and enjoy some delicious cakes."

The event, sponsored by local organisations including Connells, will run between 10am and 3.30pm and will feature performances from tribal belly dancers, majorettes, a brass band and traditional morris dancers.

Families will be able to feast on hot street food courtesy of The Crown and Thistle pub, while an ice cream van and cake stalls will satisfy sweet teeth.

Several shops around the town centre will be competing in a window competition and will be transforming their shop fronts into pink spectacles, with the winner receiving a silver trophy to display until next year.
