PLANNING applications totalling more than 54 new homes will be decided tomorrow night.

Vale of White Horse District Council planning committee will make decisions at a meeting in Wantage.

First on the agenda is a plan to build a 46-home estate in East Hendred near Didcot.

Graham Flint wants to build the homes on land east of Portway Cottages on Reading Road.

More than 27 residents have objected to the plans, saying the homes would be "unsustainable" in the village, urbanise the area and harm the character of the village.

East Hendred Parish Council has also objected to the increase in traffic on local roads and the loss of "high-grade" agricultural land.

However planning officers at the Vale have recommended the committee to approve, on the basis the development would provide an "economic and social role".

Also on the agenda are plans to build 18 homes in Manor Close, Chilton, a plan to demolish Crossroads Garage showroom in Southmoor Abingdon and replace it with a new supermarket and plans to build a new one-bed guest house at Carswell Golf Course.

The meeting will be held in the Ridgeway suite at the Beacon on Portway from 6.30pm and members of public are welcome to attend.
