A planning application for street trading consent has been made for an Oxfordshire pub.

Pub company Oak Taverns submitted the application to South Oxfordshire District Council for “pop up food operators of various styles form gazebos, horse boxes and purpose built vans” at The Cross Keys in Wallingford High Street.

The company was forced to stop selling street food by Vale of White Horse and South Oxfordshire District Councils in 2023 due to an issue with street trading permits but has since begun the process of bringing food trucks and vendors back to their premises.

Permission has been submitted in the form of a planning application as the pub is a Grade II listed building.

Ten vendors have been approached to trade at The Cross Keys, should the application be successful, including Luca's Shawarma, Dyllies Pizza, Friends and Favours, Fink Street Food, I’m Japanese, 1885 Burgers and BBQ Sams, according to commercial director David Collinson.

Mr Collinson said: “We took over The Cross Keys in April 2022. Street food traders can’t operate in our car park or on our land without a required permit.

“It’s classed as a street as you can access our car park without payment, thus vendors require a permit from the council despite the fact trading would occur on our property.

“As and when this application is granted our street traders can then gain the relevant permits.”

The consultation period ends on March 15, with a target decision date listed on the district council’s website as April 9.
