Drivers in and around Oxford will have two National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

The A34 is expected to be impacted as National Highways carry out technology work on the roads and lanes.

But the news isn't too bad, with both of them only expected to cause slight delays, of under 10 minutes.

Here are the road closures in Oxford over the next two weeks:

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that two closures are due to start over the next two weeks:

• A34, from 8pm April 24 to 6am April 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A34 northbound, Botley, slip road and lane closures for technology work.

• A34, from 8pm May 3 to 6am May 4, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A34 both directions Hinksey Hill to Peartree, Lane closures for barrier works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.

Roads need to be closed occasionally for a variety of reasons, although the main reason is generally to avoid danger to the public or to those working on or next to roads.

Construction to the A34

Construction work is underway on a critical HS2 bridge which will maintain the important A43 road link between Oxford, Brackley, and Northampton.

The roadway provides key access to Silverstone and acts as a connector between the M40 and M1.

The essential groundwork for the A43 overbridge has started just outside Brackley, following the successful, temporary realignment of both carriageways.

The realignment project spanned seven months, requiring only two-weekend closures.

HS2 partnered with National Highways to create an 'island' between the two carriageways, spacious enough to accommodate new bridge deck construction.
